Making Theater from Interviews with Amanda Gronich

Back by popular demand! A writing development intensive from Tectonic Theater Project, taught by Amanda Gronich, one of the creators of The Laramie Project.

How do you create original non-fiction theater? How do you transform real life true stories – captured through in-depth interviews – into dynamic theatrical narratives? In this course, taught by professional scriptwriter Amanda Gronich, we’ll train in diverse techniques that generate powerful non-fiction storytelling. Exploring the art of interviewing, story structures, and Moment Work – Tectonic Theater Project's groundbreaking devising method – we'll discover how to craft and hone interview material into thought-provoking, well-plotted theatrical narratives. Each artist will have the opportunity to develop their own work throughout the course.

There is no prerequisite for this training.

You do not need to have interview material on the first day, and no prior experience in interviewing or non-fiction writing is necessary.

Dates: Wednesday evenings, 7-10pm, September 11-November 13, 2019 (10 weeks)
