Moment Work and Shakespeare: Part 2

Taught by Scott Barrow

How can the Moment Work™ methodology that Tectonic uses to create new and original work partner with an existing script?

This laboratory-style class will use the principals of Moment Work™ to explore classical text and answer questions and hunches devisers have about the play. Participants will create complex moments and narratives that explore themes and images in Shakespeare’s plays; partnering the elements of the stage and Shakepeare's text.
Prerequisites - Participants do not need to have taken Moment Work and Shakespeare Part 1, but should have taken an intro to Moment Work class, or read Moment Work: Tectonic Theater Project's Process of Devising Theater.

Scott Barrow has been working with Tectonic Theatre Project since 2005 as a master Moment Work teacher, collaborator on new works, and an actor in 33 Variations, the first tour of The Laramie Cycle, The Album, and Uncommon Sense. Scott teaches Moment Work workshops for Tectonic all across the country, including a year-long residency at Drew University, where he and Barbara Pitts McAdams helped students develop, fully design, and stage an adaptation of Kafka’s Metamorphosis. As an actor, Scott has also played major roles in New York at New York Workshop, Arena Stage, the Arden Theatre, Arkansas Repertory, Nevada Shakespeare in the Park, DC’s Studio Theatre, Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, Trinity Rep, and Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse (where he is an Artistic Associate), Shakespeare and Company, The Wilma, and more. Drawing on a decade of experience as an uninterested and mediocre student, Scott has been developing alternative ways to engage students and creatively explore classroom subjects with Stages on the Sound, where he is the Artistic Director. Most recently, Scott collaborated on Commonwealth Shakespeare and Google’s VR presentation of HAMLET 360.
